An easy way to upgrade your bespoke paper bags is to opt for a luxury handle option. Satin ribbon handles are the perfect addition to your luxury paper bags. Ribbon handles ensure bags are sturdy and comfortable to carry. You can also add soft rope handles to your bags, or to add a luxurious touch you can opt for a ribbon slot to tie the bags together- perfect for gifts. To help your paper bags really stand out you can choose handles in a contrasting colour to the bags. Handles are often overlooked or are even an afterthought when designing a paper bag. Knowing about the different materials and styles used for handles are great for the designing process. From grosgrain and cotton twill to rope and satin ribbon materials, choosing the best type of handle for your bag can have a big impact visually. While these handle types are very unique, they add very little expense to the overall cost of the bag. Here are the different kinds of handles to choose from: Satin/Grosgrain Ribbon Ribbons are soft, luxurious, have a glossy finish and is also quite durable. Ribbon handles come in a wide range of colours and can suit almost any style of bags. Ribbons are not very good for bags that will contain heavy goods. However, for smaller and lighter items, ribbon handles are an excellent choice, especially when the look and feel of the bag are more important. Satin Ribbon or Grosgrain Ribbon handles are often inserted into the top fold of paper bags rather than in holes. They offer a premium look and a softer hand hold. It can also be tied with a knot at each end or secured in the top fold of the bag. Cotton Cotton also provides the same upscale feel as that of ribbon handles. However, cotton ropes have far more strength than ribbons. Also, thicker cotton ropes are comfortable to hold when it comes to carrying heavier loads. Rope Handles Rope handles made from cotton or polypropylene rope are a popular choice. Simple, softer than twisted paper handles, but still attractive. Finished with a T-lace or knot or eyelet and available in many colours. A T-lace is the most common way to finish the raw end of a rope handle. The small plastic fittings prevent the handle from slipping out. A rope handle tied with a knot at the end is more expensive than a T-lace fitting because it will require more manual work. However, some value the personal attention to detail. Twisted Paper Machine made twisted paper handles are strong and rigid. They do not feel so luxurious, but they can endure a lot of strain. Also, manufacturers can make them very quickly. Twisted paper is more economical than both ribbon and cotton since it is machine made, yet it is still relatively strong. Available as standard in either white or brown kraft – but with multiple other colour – these handles aren’t as luxurious as cotton or ribbon, but they do possess their own natural charm. Die Cut Handle Die-cut handles are made by cutting shapes from the bag itself, which give a more modern look and can make your luxury paper bag easier to store. Handles are such small parts of a paper bag, but they make a big difference. Make sure you take the time to pick the right type. We specialise in supplying innovative bespoke bags & boxes.
